Philanthropy Northwest staff and conference committee members have been hard at work developing sessions and activities for our 2012 Annual Conference and Membership Meeting in Walla Walla October 1 through 3. But before the conference officially kicks off on October 1, there’s a myriad of pre-conference activities for participants to get engaged in to make the most out of the trip to Washington wine country. Check out the sessions we’ve been putting together below, and be sure to register before June 14 to save $100!
Community Foundation Convening: This one and a half-day convening is a skills-based workshop, open to all community foundation staff and board members. Hear from community foundation colleagues and experts on community foundation leadership, fund development, board engagement and marketing. There will also be opportunities to connect and share with your peers. Washington community foundations will have a chance to get together and discuss the progress of a project discussed in Walla Walla last year.
This event is made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This convening is an optional pre-conference opportunity and starts on Sunday, September 30 (12:00pm – 8:00pm) and runs through Monday, October 1 (8:30am – 1:30pm). The convening ends on Monday with lunch and the opening keynote for the Philanthropy Northwest 2012 Annual Conference and Membership Meeting. The fee for this is $150/person.
Policy Institute: Philanthropy Northwest and the Council on Foundations are working together to develop and conduct a public policy workshop. The Institute will give foundation staff and trustees tools and skills for engaging in matters of public policy. The Policy Institute is the first of its kind in the nation between a regional association of grantmakers and Council on Foundations.
The Institute is an optional pre-conference skill-building workshop on Monday, October 1 and runs from 8:30am – 11:30am (prior to the 12:00pm start of the Philanthropy Northwest 2012 Annual Conference). The fee for this is $100/person.
Mission Investing Workshop - Incorporating program-related investments (PRIs) and other impact investments into your philanthropy: This intensive training is for trustees, organizational leaders and staff of foundations that are exploring or actively using investments as tools to achieve their philanthropic goals. Team attendance is encouraged from both community foundations and private foundations.*
The three-hour session will include segments on:
- Innovative Uses of Capital
- Establishing or Expanding a Mission Investment Program
- Your Program at Work: Finding and Assessing Investment Opportunities
This workshop is developed by Mission Investors Exchange (formerly PRI Makers Network). As a participant, you will learn from experienced mission investors, examine case examples, and receive practical tools you can use in your own foundation’s program.
This workshop is an optional pre-conference skill-building opportunity on Monday, October 1 and runs from 8:30am – 11:30am (prior to the 12:00pm start of the Philanthropy Northwest 2012 Annual Conference). The fee for this program is $150/person.
*Teams may consist of, e.g., foundation trustee / staff member; finance committee member / CFO; legal advisor / trustee. Conference participants may host outside advisors for this session only and must accompany them to the session. Please contact Lyn Hunter to make arrangements for your guest.
