UPDATED: Philanthropy Northwest members respond to earthquake in Japan
Many Philanthropy Northwest members have announced grants in support of relief efforts in Japan.
Amgen will donate $1 million to Japanese disaster relief efforts. Amgen and the Amgen Foundation will distribute the funds to both Direct Relief International and International Medical Corps to bring basic needs and vital health services to those affected in Japan.
Boeing and its employees will contribute $2 million to assist with recovery efforts. The funds will come from The Boeing Company Charitable Trust and employee contributions. Boeing is in discussions with relief agencies and other groups to determine how the company’s portion of the contribution can best be used to support recovery efforts. Contributions from Boeing’s U.S.-based and international employees will go directly to the American Red Cross relief efforts.
UPDATED: Costco is encouraging customer donations to relief efforts.
UPDATED: In addition to donations made by consumers to the American Red Cross through Coinstar kiosks, Coinstar and its employees donated over $17,000 to Shelterbox USA.

UPDATED: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provided a $1 million grant to Mercy Corps to provide emergency response to earthquake and tsunami-affected communities.
UPDATED: JP Morgan Chase will commit $5 million to near-term relief and recovery efforts, and is also encouraging employees to contribute to the rescue efforts being led by The American Red Cross and World Vision, with the firm matching these contributions.
Microsoft is making an initial commitment of $2 million, which includes $250,000 in cash as well as in-kind contributions such as software. The company has a range of additional support efforts underway. Read more.
UPDATED: Premera Blue Cross made a $25,000 donation to support Red Cross disaster assistance in Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
UPDATED: Real Networks Foundation made a $50,000 grant via the American Red Cross targeted for Japan disaster relief efforts. In addition, the Foundation matches employee donations up to $10,000 per employee, per year.
Starbucks Coffee Company and Starbucks Coffee Japan will contribute ¥100 million (approx. USD$1.2 million) to aid immediate humanitarian and relief efforts.
UPDATED: US Bank Foundation donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross, and will match up to $100,000 in employee donations to the relief efforts.
UPDATED: Wells Fargo will immediately contribute $500,000 to the American Red Cross to support the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund. In addition, Wells Fargo will match contributions from its team members dollar-for-dollar, up to $500,000, for a potential total of $1.5 million.
UPDATED: The Weyerhaeuser Community Fund is donating $500,000 to the American Red Cross to help those on Honshu Island affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The entire contribution will assist in immediate, short-term relief efforts coordinated by the Japanese Red Cross. In addition, Weyerhaeuser businesses are working with their customers to develop plans for longer-term recovery support when the rebuilding process begins.
